I had always thought that when I started a blog it would be something fantastic. Something engaging. Something that would make peopl want to read, to be sucked into the world of my words. That every word I typed would make even the most mundane writerly thing seem fascinating, shiny, and oh, so glamorous. Bah! There went that ideal.
You see, as I start this blog, it isn't to share my vast storehouse of knowledge on the publishing industry (note heavy sarcasm), it isn't even to share my wonderful musings on daily life as a writer. No. It's because I really, really, really wanted to participate in the A Round of Words in 80 Days challenge. And didn't have a blog yet. Yep, total confession. And to make it worse...I'm starting late.
This blog is here so I can share my painful, probably embarrassing, and guaranteed to be frustrating journey over the next 77 days as I try to finish (or at least knock out a huge chunk of) my new WIP. I had planned on giving myself four months to do this, but here I am trying to cram it into 80 (77) days. So much for setting a goal and sticking to it.
Here is my revised goal:
Finish a crazy detailed outline that my friend Cristin Terrill tipped me about, and write 80,000 words in 80 days. Pretty simple. But I'd still be ecstatically happy with 50k. Since I'm starting now, that means more than 1,000 words a day. I've never done that consistently. Hence being happy with 50k. Like my dad always said, set your goals low so you'll always achieve them. He was joking. I think.
Here goes nothing. Wish me luck...because I'm definitely going to need it! :)
Definitely looking forward to commiserating with everyone. Best wishes!
Hi, RJ! Welcome to the blogosphere, and to ROW80! I'm so glad you decided to participate, and I'm excited to see your blog take shape over the next 80 days (and beyond)! Good luck with your 50K goal (with hopes of 80K), and maybe don't think of it as setting your goals low; instead, think of it as setting REASONABLE goals you know you can achieve without going nuts in the process. That is, after all, what ROW80 is all about!
ReplyDeleteHappy writing, and it's so nice to meet you! :D
Aw, thanks Claire! I'm super excited actually. Can't wait to get into the thick of things. And I like the whole "reasonable goal" thing. Keeping my sanity is sounding pretty appealing.
